Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Dr. Harry F. Moniba Foundation’s mission? The mission of the Dr. Harry F, Moniba Foundation (HFMF), a U.S. nonprofit public benefit charity, is to promote Dr. Moniba's legacies of nonviolence and public service integrity by providing educational opportunities that make a difference in the lives of deserving youths in postwar Liberia, and to maximize the effectiveness of every donation to the charity by providing donors with the information they need to make more informed giving decisions. What are the Dr. Harry F. Moniba Foundation’s current programs?
All legal residents of Liberia under the age of 21 and with a high school degree are welcome to apply. How is the selection process made? The selection committee will always consist of a minimum of seven members having to review and approve the application of every student before they are awarded assistance. Board Members will recuse themselves from the process if they have a familial or personal relationship to an applicant. A student’s grade point average, keen interest in pursuing a career in public service, Statement of Intent and Letters of Recommendation will be the determining factors as to whether or not he/she will be offered assistance. Are there a set number of scholarships that the foundation will give out to Liberian students every year? Unfortunately, the foundation can only provide scholarships based on the amount of money that is raised. As a result, the foundation aggressively pursues all avenues to raise money legitimately to afford as many deserving scholars assistance. The HFMF’s board members are committed, though, to awarding support to at least one deserving student every year although we anticipate the number of Moniba Scholars to be much higher. How does the Foundation pay its scholars’ tuition? The Foundation, in partnership with the various local colleges, pays the schools directly after the student has registered for the upcoming school semester. The students do, however, receive a lump sum at the beginning of the academic semester so that they may purchase required textbooks. Applications must be received no later than May 15th in order to be considered for the following academic school year. For further information, please go to Scholarship Application. Is a student’s scholarship reward automatically renewed for the following year? No, a scholarship reward is given for one academic year. In order to maintain the scholarship, a student must uphold a GPA of 3.2 and be in good standing with the school and community. Secondly, the HFMF requires that all scholarship recipients commit four days a month (two hours each visit), volunteering their time at an elementary or middle school in mentorship roles. If all these criteria are met, then the scholarship is renewed. Who will have access to the Moniba Library and Computer Center? In our efforts to bolster computer and literacy learning, all Liberians will be eligible to be library card holders. Does the foundation accept project proposals or award grants to other 501 (c) (3) entities? No, HFMF is not a grant-making organization, and does not provide funding to outside projects. How can I donate money to the Dr. Harry F. Moniba Foundation? There are several ways to donate, which include safe and secure online donation through PayPal. By mail, please send your donation addressed to the foundation at: Or through wire transfer at Bank of America: Account # 446004879752. If you have in-kind donations, please feel free to contact us for further details. Will my name or contact information be sold or traded to other organizations? Absolutely not. The Moniba Foundation does not sell or trade the names of its donors. Will I receive a receipt for my donation? Your receipt will be placed in the mail within three days after a contribution is made. If you do donate through wire transfer, please contact us either by e-mail, or phone to let us know your mailing address. Yes. All contributions made to HFMF are tax deductible, as applicable by law.
